Robert grew up in Pepperell, Massachusetts, about an hour west of Boston in what was, at that time, rural countryside. He attended Boston University, graduating Cum Laude, with a B.A. in English.  After working for several years as an analyst for the Federal Department of Transportation in Cambridge; Robert decided to continue his education. He enrolled in the Boston College Carroll School of Management, obtaining an MBA in Finance with a Real Estate minor (GPA 3.6).

During that time, he met and married Sharon Hogan a New York City native who had moved to Boston to attend Northeastern University for a B.S. in Psychology, followed by an M. Ed. from Boston University, and finally an MBA in Finance from Northeastern University.

(There is a joke that we try to never attend the same school twice.)

Our real estate experience started with the very first property we bought, which was a three family building in Brookline, Mass. that had been under rent control. We bought and renovated it (and still own it), and the rest, as one might say, is history.

We moved to the Chapel Hill area in early 1990 and have loved being here ever since. Our three children attend Tufts University, East Chapel Hill High, and Durham Academy.  We have two cats and two dogs, enjoy gardening and going to the beach. Life is very full!

To relax, we enjoy traveling, having been to Mexico, Australia, and Puerto Rico in recent years. Robert speaks German and French, Sharon is studying Spanish.
